To mark the auspicious occasion of Onam, St George’s School Alaknanda organised an Inter-School Pookalam (Floral Decoration) Competition on 1tst September 2023.
Onam is an eagerly awaited festival that marks the homecoming of the legendary king, Mahabali to every household in Kerala, to enquire about their well-being. The occasion was graced by Honourable Director Ma’am, Dr. Sara George, Esteemed CEO Sir, Mr. Jaya Prakash and Respected Principal Ma’am, Ms Anjali Massey. Honourable Director Ma’am, Dr. Sara George inaugurated the holy occasion by lighting the lamp.
The twelve schools that participated in this competition were notable for making beautiful designs enthusiastically showcasing their talent, imagination and creativity as they competed in the traditional competition. The main parameters on which they were judged were presentation, colour combination, cleanliness, pattern and the variety of flowers used. Students displayed a perfect balance of creativity and understanding of colours by dabbling with fresh flower petals for making intricately decorated pookalams. The efforts, originality and creativity of the students were appreciated by the dignitaries and the judges, Mrs Rashmi Sharma, Mrs Valsa Mathews and Mrs Asha Sharma. Colourful flower carpets adorned the school, symbolizing peace and serenity, resource sharing, love and brotherhood. It was followed by a beautiful cultural programme – a folk dance of Kerala.
St.Thomas Sr. Secondary School, Faridabad clinched the Winners’ Trophy. The second position was bagged by New Green Fields School, Alaknanda. CEO Sir, Mr Jaya Prakash congratulated the students on their aesthetic sense, creativity, and colour combination. The Principal, Ms Anjali Messey congratulated the students on their superb teamwork and the efforts they had put in making the pookalam. Director ma’am, Dr Sara George conveyed her sincere thanks to the judges and congratulated the participants. She also gave away the certificates and prizes to the winners. The event ended on a happy note.
